As a pillar of the Chemical industry, the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) consistently ensures the proactive supply of resources, develops a diverse product ecosystem, and promotes the "greening" of agriculture. This allows the group to accompany farmers and contribute to safeguarding national food security.
Proactive Resource Supply
A stable agricultural sector operates only when fertilizers reach the fields on time, in the right quantity, with the correct quality, and at a reasonable price. This has been the consistent operational philosophy pursued by Vinachem's network of fertilizer production and trading units for many years. Thanks to its scale and coordinated, seasonal operations, Vinachem maintains a very large supply capacity for the domestic market, creating a crucial "buffer zone" against global input fluctuations.
Currently, Vinachem has 10 member units in the fertilizer sector, spread across all three regions, allowing for proactive inventory management and product regulation based on season and the specific needs of each growing area. In the first nine months of 2025 alone, the total output of all types continuously exceeded targets, showing a growth of 12-18% compared to the same period in 2024. With an annual supply capacity of millions of tons and a product ecosystem covering nitrogen (N), phosphate (P), DAP, NPK, and potassium (K), Vinachem maintains its role as a pillar and stabilizer of the domestic fertilizer market.
Beyond meeting domestic demand, Vinachem also reaches the international level. The system has expanded fertilizer exports to over 70 countries and territories, with an average turnover of approximately $700 million per year.
The significance of proactive resource supply goes beyond just product tonnage. When supplies are sufficient, farmers don't miss seasons or have to reduce dosages to the extent of affecting productivity. Furthermore, the market avoids local "price surges," helping to stabilize cultivation costs. Along with a deep and wide distribution network, Vinachem's units play a stabilizing role, ensuring that key cropping areas—from rice, corn, and vegetables to industrial crops—maintain their production rhythm, thereby helping to guarantee national food security.
Diverse Fertilizer Ecosystem Tailored to Specific Crops and Regions
To serve an agricultural sector with diverse soils, crops, and climates, Vinachem has built a fertilizer ecosystem spanning five key product groups: nitrogen (urea), phosphate (superphosphate, fused phosphate), DAP, NPK, and potassium. This forms a complete "nutritional menu" for crops across different growth stages.
• Nitrogen Fertilizers (Urea): The Ha Bac Nitrogenous Fertilizer and Ninh Binh Nitrogenous Fertilizer (Vinachem units members) provide the main source of nitrogen for crops. Nitrogen promotes leaf and stem growth, which is especially important for wet rice, corn, and leafy vegetables. Thanks to the capacity of the nitrogen block, the system meets a very large part of the domestic nitrogen demand, reducing import dependence and promptly supporting peak planting periods.
• Phosphate Fertilizers (Superphosphate, Fused Phosphate): Vinachem owns leading phosphate brands such as Lam Thao Superphosphate, Van Dien Fused Phosphate, Long Thanh Phosphate plant (of The Southern Fertilizers), and Ninh Binh Phosphate. Phosphorus (P2O5) helps develop roots, stems, flowers, and fruits, forming the foundation for seed setting and nutrient accumulation. Fused phosphate only dissolves in the weak acid environment secreted by roots, making it suitable for base application, preventing washout, and being environmentally friendly. Consequently, Vinachem’s phosphate group is suitable for many soil types, particularly acidic and alum-affected soils that need improvement, contributing to long-term fertility enhancement.
• DAP (Diammonium Phosphate): DAP is an N-P complex fertilizer with high nutrient content (∼16% N; ∼44%P2O5), helping plants absorb nutrients quickly, increase the fruiting rate, and boost yield. Vinachem currently operates two large-scale DAP plants in Dinh Vu (Hai Phong) and Lao Cai, supplying hundreds of thousands of tons annually to the market. DAP Dinh Vu and DAP Lao Cai have established their quality in many specialized areas for rice, industrial crops, and fruit trees, and are also exported, contributing foreign currency and brand reputation.
• NPK Compound Fertilizers: Vinachem's subsidiaries supply over 1 million tons of NPK annually, holding the number one market share in Vietnam. NPK integrates N-P-K and secondary/micronutrients (such as S, Ca, Mg, trace elements) according to specialized formulas for each crop/stage. Vinachem owns leading NPK units like Binh Dien Fertilizer, Lam Thao Fertilizer & Chemicals, the Southern Fertilizer, Can Tho Fertilizer, etc. This ensures the market has a rich product range: medium-to-high content NPK, NPK supplemented with microorganisms, specialized NPK (for coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, fruit trees...), distributed across all cultivation regions and exported to Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
• Potassium Fertilizers (K): To reduce import reliance and proactively secure supply, Vinachem is implementing the Potash Rock Salt Mining and Processing Project in Khammouane Province (Lao PDR)—a key national-level project. With a designed capacity of hundreds of thousands of tons per year, the project will provide a stable supply of Potash to Vietnamese agriculture, stabilize the market, pricing, and save foreign currency once operational. The first products for the domestic and regional markets are expected in mid-2027. This is a strategic step to complete Vinachem's fertilizer ecosystem toward sustainable self-sufficiency.
Application by Region and Crop: The Mekong Delta (wet rice) favors Dau Trau fertilizer for increased yield and reduced pests; the Central Highlands (long-term industrial crops) uses high-formula NPK, rich in K, to enhance resilience and increase latex/fruit yield; Dong Thap Muoi (acidic alum soil) uses Van Dien Fused Phosphate to improve pH, supplement necessary micronutrients, and increase long-term fertility.
Thanks to this diverse ecosystem, Vinachem provides not only the "sufficient" quantity but also the "correct" type and formula, meeting cultivation requirements by region and crop, contributing to improved application efficiency and agricultural product quality.
Greening Agriculture, Accompanying Farmers
"Greening" is not just about technology in the factory but also about discipline in fertilizer use on the farm. Vinachem's units actively promote on-site workshops and technical consultation points, disseminating the "4 Rights" principle (right type, right dose, right time, right method), and encouraging balanced N-P-K-S-TE nutrition. This reduces loss and leaching, protecting the soil ecosystem and water sources.
In saline, alum-affected, and degraded soils, specialized formulas (such as fused phosphate, NPK supplemented with secondary/micronutrients) help improve the soil, stimulating root systems, and setting the stage for sustainable productivity. Simultaneously, the production block focuses on standardizing output quality and traceability, ensuring formula stability based on season and crop variety. The logistics block optimizes warehousing and inventory to reduce costs and emissions in product circulation.
When application efficiency increases and the land is protected, farmers reduce costs, stabilize yields, and the food supply chain becomes more resilient to risks. This is the core message of "greening agriculture contributes to ensuring national food security" that Vinachem pursues.
From the proactive supply of resources (millions of tons, growing 12-18% in the first nine months of 2025) to a diverse product ecosystem (N-P-DAP-NPK-K) and the orientation toward greening the fields, Vinachem is implementing a synchronized and tangible strategy to secure national food security. In the context of extreme weather and volatile input markets, these three pillars help farmers avoid seasonal disruptions, help the food chain maintain production rhythm, and ultimately increase the value of agricultural products sustainably. This is the path Vinachem steadfastly pursues: proactive, diverse, and greening for a self-reliant agriculture.
