Son La is a province with a large forest land area, ranking third in the country after Nghe An and Quang Nam provinces. In Decision No. 384/QD-UBND dated February 20, 2025, on the announcement of the forest status in Son La province in 2024, it was stated that Son La has a forest area of over 671,596.3 hectares, with a coverage rate of 47.6%. With such a large forest area and complex terrain, monitoring and detecting forest fires face many difficulties.

According to forecasts, during the dry season of 2025-2026, the weather will continue to exhibit many complex developments, and forest fires that cause severe damage may occur. The Son La Provincial Forest Protection Department has focused on implementing measures to minimize forest fires and the damage they cause. Therefore, in July 2025, the Provincial People's Committee, in collaboration with the Forestry Information Systems Joint Stock Company (FIS), installed 10 automatic forest fire forecast signboards at the Forest Protection Stations across the province. In addition to actively working on forecasting and closely monitoring the situation with the involvement of authorities, local people and communities living near forests also need to raise their vigilance and sense of responsibility in order to minimize the occurrence of forest fires.
