Sustainable forest management plan at Ia Meur Protection Forest Management Board, solution to the problem of biodiversity conservation

11:52 AM @ Tuesday - 07 January, 2025

Of the total of more than 10 thousand hectares managed by Ia Meur Protection Forest Management Board, the natural forest area accounts for more than 7,000 hectares. In particular, the flora is rich and diverse, with high scientific and economic value. The flora area records wood tree species distributed in the red book: Dalbergia cochinchinensis, Fibraurea recisa, Afzelia xylocarpa, Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Xylia xylocarpa .... There are also some species of economic value and some medicinal plants.

Like the Protection Forest Management Boards throughout Gia Lai province, Ia Meur Protection Forest Management Board does not have a specialized department for rescue and biological development with the following functions: Rescue, conservation and development of rare and endangered wild flora and fauna species; Researching behavior in raising rare wild animals in captivity to serve conservation and development; Collecting, cultivating, preserving genetic resources and breeding rare Vietnamese plant species. However, the Board has done a good job of receiving, rescuing, and restoring creatures after confiscation from violations of the law on field research, and releasing creatures into their natural habitat after rescue. In parallel with forest management and protection, the Board also does a good job of storing and preserving genetic resources of endangered, precious, rare, and endangered species on the basis of: Research and collect data and information on biology, physiology, ecology, distribution and status of protected species; Propagate and educate about laws on forest protection, nature conservation, and biodiversity.

According to the plan, the Board has a plan to preserve biodiversity, protect ecologically valuable forests, not use forests with conservation value for commercial purposes, not build infrastructure, and not use chemicals. Only collect some secondary forest products such as medicinal plants, mushrooms... but not during the mating and breeding season.

Protect rare animal and plant species: Make a list of rare animal and plant species, determine distribution areas on maps and in the field. Coordinate with local authorities to organize propaganda and dissemination of the list of endangered and rare forest animals, protection measures and prohibited actions against these subjects; Print leaflets with pictures of these species along with local names so people can easily recognize them, install a few signs with content, images and fines for illegal hunting in the forest.

Identify ecologically valuable forests; Develop long-term, stable management and protection plans for each type of forest. Continue to carry out patrols, inspections, forest management and protection regularly and closely, maintain local control, and promptly detect violations of forest laws. Develop plans for forest management, protection, and annual forest fire prevention and fighting. Propose measures to effectively implement forest management and protection, and prevent negative impacts affecting forest resources.

In summary, the Sustainable Forest Management Plan highlights the current status of the flora and fauna at Ia Meur Protection Forest Management Board as well as offers plans and measures to preserve the biodiversity of the ecosystem here with the criteria that biodiversity is a decisive factor for stability and is the basis for survival of life on earth. Protecting biodiversity will help create ecological balance in nature, reducing the risk of species extinction; preserving resources that provide for human life; Ensuring material, economic benefits and intangible spiritual values...
