Sustainable forest management plan at Ia Puch Protection Forest Management Board contributes to promoting forest fire prevention

03:43 PM @ Tuesday - 07 January, 2025

Most of the forest area under the Ia Puch Protection Forest Management Board is dipterocarp forest and Pinus pine plantation, with a thick layer of vegetation and often deciduous in the dry season. In addition, the lives of people in the area mainly depend on nature, going to the forest to make a living, and there is still the practice of slash-and-burn and deforestation for farming. In recent years, harsh weather conditions, prolonged drought, little rain... so the risk of forest fires is very high every year. To carry out forest protection, fire prevention more methodically and effectively, the Board has coordinated with Forestry Information System Joint Stock Company (FIS) to build and complete a sustainable forest management plan.

According to the plan, the Board implements plans for forest fire prevention each year, establishing a Steering Committee and standing teams for forest fire prevention. Coordinate with on-site forces to regularly patrol, inspect, monitor and promptly mobilize firefighting forces when there is a fire; At the same time, combine activities to prevent deforestation and forest land encroachment.

The plan also requires determining the time of year when forest fires are most likely to occur, creating maps of key forest fire areas, and closely monitoring these areas. Combined with the investment plan for equipment, firefighting tools, tools to predict and warn of forest fire risks, and build infrastructure: such as fire-resistant runways, water tanks, fire watchtowers... are also deployed so that when there is a fire, firefighting can take place promptly and quickly.

The Board will install additional propaganda boards and signs on forest fire prevention, banning fires, banning cutting and burning of forests, and protecting wildlife. At the same time, propagate and disseminate to raise awareness and knowledge about forest management and protection, forest fire prevention; Organize training and drills on fire prevention methods for specialized forces and local people.

The Board takes measures to reduce burning materials in appropriate weather conditions with human control so as not to cause forest fires and not affect the natural regeneration of forests and the environment. At the same time, coordinate with forest rangers and authorities to investigate, handle, and overcome the consequences after extinguishing the fire and conduct an assessment of the ability of the burned area to recover into a forest.

The development of forest fire prevention plans in the sustainable forest management plan at the Ia Puch Protection Forest Management Board contributes significantly to early detection and early warning of fires, and minimizes damage caused by forest fires.
