Proactively strengthen forest fire prevention in Yen Bai
Yen Bai currently has over 400,000 hectares of forested land; The forest cover rate remains around 60%; Of which, forest areas with high fire risk are concentrated in the western districts and towns of the province; including: Van Chan, Nghia Lo town, Tram Tau, Mu Cang Chai. Currently, in the dry period, the lowest humidity in many places is still below 50%. The layer of vegetation under the forest canopy dries quickly, creating a large volume of combustible material that poses a potential fire hazard; In addition to the slash-and-burn farming habits of ethnic minorities here, the possibility of forest fires spreading due to fire increases. From the beginning of the year to the end of October 2024, there were 14 fires in the province, causing damage to nearly 30 hectares of forest area; Including nearly 22 hectares of natural forest.

To minimize damage caused by forest fires, right before the dry season, the Provincial Forest Protection Department sends forest rangers to key fire areas; Arrange blocking points, guard patrols, and strictly control people entering and leaving areas with high risk of forest fires; At the same time, advise and help local authorities do well the work of forest protection, fire prevention and fighting. In addition, the Forest Protection Department also established an interdisciplinary inspection team: inspect and urge forest owners to implement fire prevention measures; Prepare vehicles and tools ready to fight forest fires; Carry out good propaganda and dissemination of laws on forest protection, open training classes on fire prevention and fighting for local forest rangers and forest protection group leaders in key districts. Districts and towns review and arrange vehicles to transport specialized fire-fighting equipment and install a system of warning signs and prohibition signs; Signs and signs propagandize prohibited acts in forestry activities; triangle fire ban sign; table of forest protection regulations, repair of fire watch towers and temporary fire watch shelters in communes; Repair fire runways...
In particular, to limit the burning of forests for slash-and-burn farming, rangers coordinate with local authorities to inventory the slash-and-burn area and instruct people how to burn slash-and-burn fields to avoid fire spreading into the forest; instructions on on-site fire fighting measures; assigning 24/24 duty force during the dry season; promptly detect fire points, mobilize forces to control and extinguish the fire.
The implementation of solutions and tasks of management, protection and forest fire prevention is being maintained well by Yen Bai province. From there, it contributes to preventing and minimizing damage caused by forest fires.
